Ingredients

  • Broodjie:
  • 8 slices white bread
  • butter for spreading
  • 1 onion sliced thin
  • 2 tomatoes sliced
  • 200 g cheddar grated
  • Mrs Ball's chutney
  • salt/white pepper
  • Potato Salad:
  • 5 medium potatoes cubed
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup red onion chopped
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 3 Tbsp Dijon mustard
  • black pepper/salt

Method

  1. Boil salted water, cook potatoes 10 min until tender but firm. Drain, cool.
  2. Boil eggs 10 min (video says 3 min is for soft - we use 10 for salad), cool, chop.
  3. Mix potatoes, eggs, onion, mayo, milk, mustard, pepper.
  4. Butter bread outside, fill inside with cheese/tomato/onion, season, close.
  5. Toast on braai grid over medium coals, press gently, flip until cheese melted and bread golden.
  6. Serve hot broodjie with cold potato salad alongside ribs/wors.

Notes

You can skip Mrs Balls Chutney but we recommend it. You can add atchat, mayo, and other ingredients of your choice but the traditional is this recipe excluding Mrs Balls chutney. Enjoy!
